Former AC Milan director Paolo Maldini has disclosed that the Italian club made an attempt to sign Lionel Messi when the Argentine star became a free agent after his departure from Barcelona in August. Maldini revealed that despite their efforts, the move never materialized as Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) were already in advanced negotiations with Messi.
Maldini’s revelation indicates that AC Milan was keen on bringing the football maestro to Serie A. However, the club’s pursuit was cut short by the swift action of PSG. Maldini stated, “We called and we tried but it remained an idea… just because Leonardo told me PSG were ahead and already in advanced talks to sign Messi.”
