Bayern Munich’s sporting director, Max Eberl, has provided insight into the club’s decision to sell Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt. Speaking to Sport1, Eberl acknowledged the fans’ desire to retain de Ligt but highlighted the necessity of offloading players.
“We saw Bayern fans petition to keep Matthijs de Ligt,” Eberl stated. “However, we also had to sell players. We felt more comfortable with Upamecano and Kim because they can defend higher up the pitch.”
Eberl further explained that an offer for de Ligt was received and subsequently accepted by the club.
