Barcelona President Joan Laporta has officially confirmed Hansi Flick as the new manager of FC Barcelona. This decision follows the recent departure of Xavi Hernández from the managerial position. Laporta disclosed that he had been considering Flick for the role since his return to the presidency of the club.
Transition to Flick’s Leadership
According to Laporta, Flick began familiarizing himself with the Barcelona squad immediately after the announcement of Xavi’s departure. The club’s reports on Flick were overwhelmingly positive, reinforcing the decision to appoint him. Laporta highlighted that both Deco, a former Barcelona player and current technical staff member, and Bojan Krkić, another ex-Barcelona player, agreed that Flick was the right choice for the club’s future.
“He started studying the team right after Xavi’s announcement. All the reports we have on Flick were super positive,” Laporta stated, emphasizing the thorough preparation and favourable reception Flick has received within the club.
Background of Managerial Changes
The managerial shift comes after a series of events involving Xavi Hernández, who recently left his role at Barcelona. Xavi’s departure was officially announced on May 25, 2024, and he has since expressed a desire to possibly return to the club in the future. Flick’s appointment was confirmed shortly after, marking a new chapter for Barcelona under Laporta’s leadership.
