Barcelona have officially announced that Sergi Roberto has left the club as a free agent. The 32-year-old versatile player is currently evaluating his next move, with Ajax and Fiorentina among the potential destinations, as revealed.
Roberto’s departure was confirmed today, following earlier reports that he would be leaving the club. His exit marks the end of a long tenure at Barcelona, where he has been a key figure in the squad.
Roberto, who has played in various positions including right-back and midfield, is now considering his options. Ajax and Fiorentina have both shown interest in acquiring his services.
The news follows a series of developments regarding Roberto’s future. On 11 August, it was reported that he would announce his departure from Barcelona. Prior to that, on 28 July, it was revealed that Ajax were interested in signing him as a free agent. Additionally, on 25 July, Hansi Flick confirmed Roberto’s departure from the club.
Earlier in the year, Barcelona manager Xavi had expressed a desire to renew Roberto’s contract, as reported on 28 April and 14 January. However, negotiations did not result in an extension, leading to Roberto’s current free agent status.
