Cristiano Ronaldo, the renowned Portuguese forward currently playing for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, has made a bold statement regarding the quality of football leagues. In a recent comment, Ronaldo asserted that the Saudi Pro League surpasses France’s Ligue 1 in terms of quality. He remarked, “Saudi League is better than Ligue 1, of course. France only has PSG. The rest are finished.”

Ronaldo’s Perspective on League Competitiveness

Ronaldo’s comments highlight his belief that Ligue 1 lacks competitive depth beyond Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). He suggested that the other teams in the French league do not match the calibre of PSG, implying a lack of competition. In contrast, Ronaldo praised the Saudi Pro League, where he currently plays, suggesting it offers a more challenging environment.

Challenges of Playing in Saudi Arabia

Ronaldo also pointed out the physical demands of playing in Saudi Arabia, particularly the extreme weather conditions. He challenged others to “try to sprint in 38, 39, 40 degree weather and see…”, emphasising the unique challenges faced by players in the region.

Ronaldo’s Recent Achievements

Ronaldo’s remarks come after a series of personal achievements. Earlier this month, he reached a milestone of 50 goals and assists in 2024, and he is nearing the remarkable milestone of 1,000 career goals. His continued success on the field underscores his enduring talent and adaptability, even as he plays in different leagues around the world.
