Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has openly criticised the packed football fixture list, questioning the fairness of the current scheduling. Klopp expressed his concerns about the impact of such congested fixtures on players and the quality of the game.
Highlighting the broader issues within football, Klopp urged those in charge to consider the strain on players rather than focusing solely on contractual obligations to broadcasters. “How is that fair? Why can’t they look at that, whoever is doing it?” Klopp stated, calling for a reevaluation of the match scheduling process.
The Liverpool boss also pointed out the contradiction between the demands of the broadcasting contracts and the well-being of the sport. “For once, put your shirt away and just think about general football problems. Somebody has to change,” he added, indicating a need for reform in how fixtures are organised.
According to Klopp, the argument that clubs have agreed to broadcasting deals does not justify the excessive number of games in a short period, which can affect players’ performance and health.
